PAPSAS Region XI Holds Kapehan Growth Session at Davao Mission Headquarters

DAVAO CITY – The Philippine Association of Practitioners of Student Affairs and Services (PAPSAS) Region XI successfully conducted its Kapehan Growth Session for newly appointed Student Affairs and Services (SAS) practitioners at the Davao Mission Headquarters. The event brought together student affairs officers and practitioners from various higher education institutions across Region XI to strengthen their knowledge and competencies in student services.
The program commenced with a welcome message from Pr. Reynald Dela Cruz, President of Davao Mission, followed by the opening remarks of Theresa Salaver-Eliab, President of PAPSAS Region XI and Director of the Office of Student Affairs (OSA) at Ateneo de Davao University.
One of the morning's key sessions featured Wijawati Rainu-Wong, Auditor of PAPSAS Region XI and Director for Academic Support Excellence at Joji Ilagan International School. She discussed "The Role of the SAS Practitioner," highlighting the vital responsibilities of student affairs professionals in fostering student development and well-being. The session also covered relevant laws and Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Memorandum Orders (CMOs) governing Student Affairs and Services.
Another important presentation was delivered by Irvin Mirabueno, Board Member of PAPSAS Region XI and Quality Assurance Director of South Philippine Adventist College. His session on "Basic Administrative Due Process in Handling Student Concerns" provided participants with practical guidance on ensuring fairness, transparency, and proper procedures in addressing student issues and grievances.
An open forum followed the presentations, allowing participants to engage in discussions, raise questions, and exchange best practices with the resource speakers.
In the afternoon, Erap Ordaneza, Vice President for State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) and Local Universities and Colleges (LUCs) of PAPSAS Region XI and Dean of the Office of Student Affairs and Services (OSAS) at Monkayo College of Arts, Sciences and Technology, discussed the guidelines for conducting off-campus student activities. The session emphasized compliance with policies and the importance of ensuring student safety and institutional accountability during off-campus engagements.
The event concluded with closing remarks from Atty. Marlou Eliab, Chairman of PAPSAS Region XI and Head of the Office of Student Affairs at San Pedro College.
The successful conduct of the Kapehan Growth Session reaffirmed PAPSAS Region XI's commitment to developing competent and ethical Student Affairs and Services practitioners.
